Civil War Philbricks & Philbrooks

(1861-1865)
During the Civil War, over 250 Philbricks & Philbrooks fought for the Union during what was known at that time as the "War of Rebellion." In Maine and New Hampshire, at least one or more Philbrick & Philbrook men served in nearly all of those two states Infantry Regiments. As for the South, Walter Philbrook of the 21st Alabama fought for the Confederates at the Battle of Shiloh. North Carolina Confederate records list the Family name, but we believe that these are misspellings of the name Philbech, whose ancestors were from Germany and not related to Thomas the Emigrant. The Philbrick & Philbrook soldiers of the Civil War can be found fighting, and sometimes dying, at all of the major engagements from Bull Run to Appomattox.
