Pioneer Era Philbricks & Philbrooks

(1800-1860)

During the 1800's many of the Philbrick & Philbrook families began to move west. Early in the century we find Philbricks & Philbrooks settled in New York and Ohio. Later, the Family is found in California, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Wisconsin. However, nowhere in the United States was the family more concentrated than in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

The Philbrick & Philbrook families of the 1800's were generally very religious having descended from their Puritan ancestors. Several Philbricks and Philbrooks became pastors during the 1800's. Politically, many of them were abolitionists and worked towards the goal of ending slavery in the United States. Because of this conviction, it is no surprise that we find very few "Southern" Philbricks or Philbrooks from 1800 through the end of the Civil War in 1865.
